GBBD at May Dreams Gardens

Early Summer

The rain has delayed work on the garden but on the bright side all the plants look like they are really appreciating it.

I haven't seen one of these fungi for years. When we first started landscaping the block there were similarly coloured rocks everywhere. One day the spray from the hose hit one and sent up a puff of brown dust. I learned to look more closely at "rocks". (Update : I believe it's a "dog vomit slime" or Fuligo septica.)

The pink bottlebrush from my GBBD post now has colourful new foliage on it.

Unfortunately I missed photographing the Kniphofia at its peak with more than a dozen flower heads.

The Dianella is also flowering, the flowers are tiny but beautiful.

I didn't realise until I was cropping the photo that there is a little bug sitting on it.

Uh oh, is that Capeweed?

The red on the new growth of the Super Hedge Photinias is almost completely replaced by green now but the other photinias are looking wonderfully bright.

Most of the trees are leafed out except the silk trees. I love the trident maple, it provides the most wonderful cooling shade when I'm working in the garden. I love the pretty foliage of the Japanese maple. I just love maples! I'm trying to work out where I can squeeze in a few more.

Variegated weigela and pink salvias are flowering. 

The flower buds on the eucalypt are so cute.

I take lots of photos of birds through the window but it's a special thrill when they come down into the garden while I'm outside, especially if I have my camera with me. Crested pigeons are regular visitors.

15 October

Something flowering in the past week or so has been perfuming the air in the evenings. It's really quite stinky, and noticeable in parts of the house even with doors and windows closed. I walked around last night in an effort to track it down with no success. There were moments when I could smell it quite clearly but I could not identify the source. 

Rain plus wind equals leaking bathroom exhaust fan again. I have some comments I could make about the manufacturer's local agent, the roofing plumber, and my husband, but they don't belong on my lovely gardening blog!

On a brighter note, we always did want a water feature in the garden... 

Note the pile of prunings, as seen in September, is gone. I would really like to get a shredder but that's waiting for the de-cluttering to be completed.

Visited the nursery, bought a couple of new dianellas, restrained myself from buying a 2m shrub I had no specific location for but having googled it I have now decided I must have it!

Took some cuttings of the white hebe. Maybe it will grow better elsewhere?

Began to trim the large photinia in preparation for some repair work of the hardscaping around it. 

Planted one of the new dianellas, one dianella from autumn (uh oh, starting to get rootbound), two brachyscome multifida, a Callistemon Packers Selection, a Callistemon Burgundy Jack and a Pittosporum Cathy.

3 October

The pink diosma is flowering, the golden diosma has had a light flowering for months.

The hardenbergia is flowering.

There's new growth on the dwarf nandinas.

The Japanese maple looks lovely.

The Chinese pistachio is fascinating before it fully leafs out.

The photinias are magnificent.

The small photinia we pruned back and transplanted last autumn is sending out new leaves.

The crepe myrtle has suddenly shown some activity in the last few days.
